The Green ButtonTM initiative is a standard aimed at allowing consumers to easily access their own energy consumption data.
The idea is to provide consumers with simple and secure access to their electricity, natural gas and sometimes water consumption data. This data is usually provided by utility providers.
By providing this data in an easily accessible way, utility providers that support Green Button standard enable consumers to better understand their energy usage, which can help them make more informed decisions about how to reduce their consumption and, therefore, their energy costs. It may also enable the development of third-party applications and services that use this data to provide personalized advice, trend analysis, or other useful functionality to consumers and government agencies.
